It is important to take action against stains as soon as possible.
Fresh spots can be easily cleaned, whereas old ones that have penetrated the fabric become permanent.
1. Blood: cold water with a few drops of ammonia, then wash normally.
2. Burns: cold water with some drops of ammonia and 120/0 hydrogen peroxide.
3. Coffee: mineral water.
4. Food: soda water. Place a towel under stained area, rub vigorously.
5. Lipstick: rub white bread over the area.
6. Grease: rub the dry fabric with soap before washing.
7. Ink: put a blotting-paper under the spot then pat with cotton soaked in 90 proof alcohol.
In case of stamp ink, pat with a cotton cloth soaked in ether and alcohol, paying careful attention that the cloth is not to moist or the spot will tend to spread.
8. Rust: sponge with weak solution of oxalic acid until the stain disappears then sponge carefully with household ammonia and rinse with water.
9. Perfume: rub lightly with a cotton flock drenched with hydrogen peroxide, then wash in cold water with a few drops of vinegar.
10. Resin: pat with a cotton cloth soaked in turpentine.
11. Wax: scrape gently with a knife, place 2 blotting papers over and under the spot, then iron.
If the wax is coloured, rub it with a cotton cloth soaked in ether.
